Can I remix one of your works, or turn it into a podfic?
Feel free! Just don't use it to make money, and I'd appreciate it if you told me about it.
What does your username mean?
It doesn't mean anything.
But since you came all the way to my website, I'll let you know how I came up with it....When I was making my new ao3 account, I wanted to pick a totally new username, so no one would connect my new writing with my other online identities, or my old Ao3 account. Unfortunately, my mind went totally blank and I couldn't come up with anything. So I started looking at the CDs on the shelf in my kitchen, and I picked up the (very good) Jon Savage compilation CD The Secret Public: How the LGBTQ+ Aesthetic Shaped Pop Culture and looked through the track listings. The gore in Stargore is from 60s pop star (and queer hero) Lesley Gore, whereas the Star is from....well, I don't know.
I thought it was from The Secret Public, but it doesn't seem to be there. Maybe I took it from Joe Meek or Sly & The Family Stone ("everybody is a star") or from David Bowie ("sonny wants to turn the world - well, he can tell you that he tried") or from any number of far-out glam rock space stars, Jobriath or Maxwell Demon or LaBelle or Parliament or Marc Bolan.
Glitter, blood and popular music. It seemed appropriate for the kind of fic I want to write.
If your username is Stargore, why is your URL stargore-77?
Some other lucky f###er got there first. So I added a number at the end. It seemed more dignified than stargoree or starrgore or even St4rg0r3, although I was very tempted by the last one.
The 77 is 77 as in "when the two 7s clash", or maybe "77 sunset strip".
Will you tell me what your old Ao3 account name was?
No.
What about some fandoms you've been in?
Sure! When it comes to fic, fanvids & other such activity, I'm mostly interested in live-action TV & movie fandoms. At the moment I'm mostly interested in two very different 90s crime drama fandoms: due South (and the associated Canadian 6 Degrees fandom) and Oz. I really like y2k websites, so maybe it's no surprise that I've become interested in two y2k fandoms.
In the past, I was mostly a reader, lurker & occasional enthusiastic commenter. Realistically, this will probably continue to be my main fandom activity.
Past (or dormant, really) fandoms include:
BBC Sherlock * Blake's 7 * The Breakfast Club * Captain America: The Winter Soldier * Doctor Who (Classic Who, New Who & EDAs) * Downton Abbey * The Get Down * H***y P****r * Jesus Christ Superstar * MASH * Les Misérables (book & musical) * Morseverse * Music RPF * Nathan Barley * Our Flag Means Death * Red Dwarf * Stargate: Atlantis * The Thick of It * V For Vendetta * Velvet Goldmine * X-men
I was also really obsessed with the Ghostbusters movies for a brief but lively period.
Where can I contact you?
If you know me, Discord is fine. If you don't know me, but need to contact me urgently about a remix/podfic/fic translation/typo on my website, then Ao3 is the best place to contact me at the moment. I'm working on getting a new email address.
