Thank you for taking part in Seekrit Santa, and for making me a gift! I'm really looking forward to seeing what you come up with.
This is my first time doing DSSS, or any fandom gift exchange at all, so it's all new and exciting to me.
You've read my DNW. Beyond that, I don't think I really have any strong dislikes. I am okay with ambiguity, ambiguous or difficult relationships, and mixed feelings. I am also okay with character studies, pre- and post- canon fics, canon divergence and AUs.
When it comes to fics:
I like emotional realism. I like fics that put real life history or experience to use - fics that make you feel like you know more about a city or a historical event. I like unconventional takes on the characters. I like it when people play with the canon. Oh, and I love fics that imitate books, newspaper articles, forum posts etc. to tell a story.
When it comes to fanvids and fanart, I'm less experienced or knowledgeable, but I'm eager to see how you'll interpret my requests if you choose to do so.
I like fanvids that use unconventional songs, or versions of songs. I like all kinds of fanart from realistic sketches and scenes to comics, cartoons, cross-stitches and photomanips.
Going through my requests one by one, here are some more details about what I was thinking when I made them. But feel free to ignore my suggestions! Follow your own inspiration, and write what comes to you! It'll probably be better that way.
Request One: F/K, Stella Kowalski.
I like Stella. I think she's interesting. I think her relationship with Ray Kowalski is also interesting - we see how it started, and we see it after it's ended, but we don't (really) know why it ended, and we don't know what it looked like when they actually liked each other. In canon, Ray's feelings for Stella (post-divorce) seem to bring out the worst in him, and Stella ends up on the defensive. What would Stella and Ray's relationship be like after Ray moved on and started a new relationship?
Request Two: Benton Fraser/Mark Smithbauer.
I am a Fraser/Smithbauer Truther. I believe that there is no heterosexual explanation for the events of Due South series 1 episode 16 The Blue Line, and that there should always be more Fraser/Smithbauer fic in the world.
Smithbauer is not a nice guy, but he's interesting, and it's interesting that Fraser likes him (even though he knows he's not a nice guy). It would be nice to see a little more of him, and (if it's fic) to see what he did after the events of the episode.
It would also be nice to get a little bit of the flavour of series 1/series 2 Due South, as opposed to series 3/4 - a little more grounded.
This doesn't have to be Fraser/Smithbauer OTP fic where they will end up together forever and ever, although I wouldn't say no if it was.
Possibly important: I know nothing about ice hockey.
Request Three: Dewey & Huey.
I like these two, and I find them funny, and I think there should be more fics about them. That's about as far as my thoughts went! Backstory, pre-canon, post-canon, missing scenes, AUs, canon divergence - whatever you come up with, I'll eat it up. They're like Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to me.
Turn that & into a / if you want, too - I don't mind.
